KalenHawke Studio

KalenHawke Studio is located in the heart of the North Georgia mountains in the community of Sautee-Nacoochee. Built in 2001, the studio serves as a platform for works created by Kathryne D. Whitehead and her husband Robert C. Whitehead.

The studio has also become a gathering place for local artists and artisans and contains both her art studio her husband's woodworking/woodcarving shop. Kathy teaches a beginning drawing class at the studio in connection with the Eagle program at the Nacoochee United Methodist Church. The combination of these facilities provides an environment where artisans can create and enjoy the beauty of the North Georgia mountains.

The works shown here were all created at KalenHawke Studio and we hope you enjoy viewing them. All works are for sale and please contact the artist if you have an interest in any works you see here.

Kathryne DeVore Whitehead

A native of Athens, Georgia, Kathy Whitehead has lived and worked in Georgia most of her life. Like many artists, she is primarily self-taught, but also studied at the Seminole Community College in Florida, the SNCA school in the Sautee Valley, and numerous workshops throughout her career.

Since moving to the mountains, Kathy has concentrated in the medium of prismacolor pencils, collage, and mosaic. Some of her pencil drawings are extrordinarily detailed images of treasures from her past and that of her family. The collages reflect a twist on reality and are made from hand painted paper or magazines. The mosaics are made from recycled Christmas cards cut in 1/2 inch squares.

Giving pleasure to the viewer is one of the primary goals and the journey to the final product, the artist's passion.
